Aspirating a stuck egg!

ShadyLady May 30, 2011 07:52 PM

My candycane had an egg stuck way up. I massaged her a couple of times and the egg came down to the vent and has stayed there a few days now. She was in shed, and I thought (hoped) she would push it out when she shed. She didn't, so today I made my first attempt at aspirating an egg. My son helped hold her. I got maybe 4 to 5 cc out - milky looking stuff. Had to stick her twice to get that much. Egg size has gone down, but NOW WHAT? Do I just hope she'll pass it? My vet is pretty much worthless with this. I lost one last year to egg binding. Vet said he couldn't do anything about it. Hopefully, she'll eat tonight and maybe that'll help? She's so sweet I don't want to lose her.

Amy, that's the game plan! Just wait a few days and hope that she passes the shriveled egg. Good Luck!

Thanks, Jorge. Last nite she ate a hopper dipped in calcium powder. Egg still there today, and I'll feed her another hopper tonite. She normally eats larger items.

Try soaking her in water container with lid with holes for a few hours. She may lay in the water. Mike Bodner

You can also try a ml or two of mineral oil up vent and massage in.

Administer mineral oil with eye dropper.
