What would you do with this space???

Misskiwi67 Sep 29, 2003 06:47 PM

Alright everyone, I need ideas!! I have a 9 ft by 2 ft by 6 foot glass and brick display at my college, and I need to put something in it. I'm thinking a medium sized lizard such as bearded dragons, but just about anything will do. I haven't been given a budget, I've just been told that they want something that will look attractive and be easy to care for. See photos at: http://community.webshots.com/album/92609500uSJdud

Let me know what you think!!!

Well, the last inhabitant was a bull snake, so I doubt there is going to be much interest in another snake species. However, something as colorful, but easier to keep than tree boas might be ok. I want to put together 3 or 4 plans and see what the biology club and the committee of professors think.

Wow! The thangs I could do with that But this is not about me. lol Have you thought of makeing a well planted terrarium? Maybe some dart frogs? Or some Uroplatus "leaftail geckos"? Wait their I go thinking about myself again..lol Good luck!

Misskiwi67 Sep 29, 2003 11:49 PM

I had thought about poison dart frogs. There is no doubt they would make an impressive display. I'd like something to use all the space, but heat and humidity throughout the display could be a problem. I have no idea what sort of ventilation/heat retention it has. So I'm hesitant to get something that needs high humidity. However, it could make a great terrarium if it were planted. I am also hesitant to get frogs due to the high levels of phermaldehyde present in the air at certain times of the year. I'm not sure how much they would be effected. This is a biology building after all.

Because I'm worried about humidity, I've decided on the following lizard species: A large group of leopard geckos, a uromastyx, a male Tegu (not sure which species), or a trio of Bearded Dragons.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how well these species would do in the display? I am looking for experiences and concerns if you have them. As far as the height of the cage, I will just decorate it with fake plants etc. I cannot find a species suitable to the habitat that would use the space. Any other ideas are welcome as well!!!

WELL, because of the height, go with some lizards that climb !That is very nice cage !

a jcp. or ijcp. awesome snakes! or any type of boa!

Misskiwi67 Sep 30, 2003 05:04 PM

what are icp and ijcp????

Jaymz Sep 30, 2003 08:04 PM

JCP is a jungle carpet python, and IJCP is irian jaya carpet python. i think a nicely colored irian would go nicely, and easy to care for, no strict humidity requirements, small size, but not too small, usually a very good temperment.

They are highly active and entertaining, and easy to care for, and would be perfect!
