Cage Size (continued)

wlcmmtt Jun 01, 2011 03:04 PM

I just realized I had another question about the size of the adult cage...The space I'm looking at using is probably 20 feet tall...Is that WAY too tall? I think the total dimensions (again, for what I'm going to convert in to the adult cage) are 20 feet wide, 30 feet deep, and like I said, about 20-25 feet tall. I know the width/depth is good, but is it a danger to myself or the monitor to have that kind of height? It's not a big deal to put in a lower ceiling, but that's why I'm asking NOW, instead of later.

What are you making and is it indoors or outdoors, what part of the country, any country? Etc.

I think I'm going to go ahead and do the whole thing indoors. We're in Central NC. I'm going to be converting what's technically a 3 car garage (it was originally a 2, with an addition on the backside) with a dirt floor in it, to a reptile facility. Splitting it up into a part for my snakes, an indoor/outdoor enclosure for my specs, and I'm thinking of turning one portion of it into an indoor monitor enclosure. This is all in the country, sitting on about 15 acres.

The addition on the backside was obviously built for tractors, because the ceiling is MUCH higher than the rest of the building. I had thought about using that portion for a monitor enclosure, only because it gets more sunlight throughout the day, and I had thought about putting some heavy duty windows in the ceiling. But I'm still not positive on that. Should I leave it with a 20 foot ceiling? Or build a lower ceiling? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Hey, I'm on a friends computer, and he was apparently still logged in. Sorry about that.

I think the biggest problem with ceiling height is, heating in the winter. It would cost lots and lots to heat that much volume.

Of course, you could use a much smaller cage in the winter. But I will say, much of our monitor breeding occurs in the winter.

if it can climb on something it would be impossible to catch later on. also it can fall. i would make a lower ceiling height.
