A Good Lesson Learned...

Hey guys,
i have a story that everyone will enjoy i'm sure. We got a pied male 2 years ago, from a very trust worthy breeder. We tried breeding him last year and no interest, figured he's a pied and its his first year breeding, so hopefully next year we can get some size on him and get him to go. This year we put him with 3 poss het pieds, and a normal. He only would lock up with one of the poss hets, every time, no problem. all the others no interest haha. we decided to get a pied male poss het albino in a package from another breeder, as this male wasn't breeding very well. Well, we found out why "he" wasn't breeding well, this weekend. He was a she and was sitting on 3 eggs when i went into water. 3 perfectly healthy eggs. and obviously this poss het pied was not a female.
Just goes to show that no matter how repitable the breeder is, check your snakes when they come in, everyone makes mistakes when sexing these things. thought you guys would get a laugh out of this.

Hope everyone's season is going well we are up to 26 clutches, babies due to hatch in a week to 10 days!

Amen! I've had that happen a few times! I ALWAYS double check babies when I get them!

We've had that happen a couple of times and have learned our lesson. We bought an adult male snow boa several years ago and after a year and a half of attempted breeding and showing no interest we decided to do some probing. Sure enough "snowman" turned out to be "snowy" our pretty female.

I pop the baby pythons as soon as we set them up and I usually do it again before we ship them out or go to a show, just to make sure.

Balls - As many as my husband will tolerate...other various reptiles, animals, kids and a smoking sweet husband; would be perfect if he only liked ball pythons...

Lessons goes on the right side at least !

Lucky you !

How many times it happened the other way around. A snake was sold as female and is actually a male, how unfortunate it is for the owner usually.

I agree we have had it both ways haha obviously the poss het pied "female" we put the pied with was a male. so ya i'm pretty happy it was this way around, we were planning on getting a pied female so now we can save that money for something else haha
