Cats to the rescue

Okay.. a little off topic again, I tend to do this, but I like you people more than the Tegu posters. Anyway, my Colombian Tegu, very small, only about 16 inches, keeps finding his way out of his cage. It's locked, clamped, sealed, what have you.. but he still manages to get away. Well, I also have three cats, none declawed, I don't believe in it, and you would think that my little tegu would be in trouble should he encounter them. I get home from work, and the little rascal is missing again. I see my cats huddled in a corner of the room meowing like a cat food commercial. So I think, great, I'm about to find myself a tegu shaped cat toy. But to my suprise, they are all just staring at it as it was sleeping in the corner. They all seem facinated with my reptiles, they love to watch them, and never attempt to catch them or anything. But seriously, I am baffled as to why, especially the kitten, made no attempt of making him into a chew toy? By all means I am not complaining, but still. Animals really amaze me sometimes. Anyone ever have some pretty amazing animal experiences like this? Please share, and ease my boredom on this slow monday night.

I guess they were having a little conference there, huh?

My cat leaves my lizards alone. He seems to understand that they belong to me. It was the same with when I used to keep rats.

I have an awesome little hamster that I rescued when it was quite young. I also have an adopted cat. I have this knack for leaving the hamster cage door open, and my hamster has also figured out how to separate 2 of her tubes, so we have frequent hamster escapes. Anyway, the hamster runs around the house and does her thing, and the cat just follows her around and watches, quite intrigued. If I'm ever missing the hamster, I just look for the cat. My cat is so non-aggressive with the hamster that my hampster isn't afraid of her at all, and sometimes I let her run around on my bed while my cat is sleeping on it. The hamster will climb on the cat, and my cat doesn't care until the hamster tries to dig a hole in her fur. Then she gets a little annoyed. My cat is the same way with my geckos. She is very interested in what they are and what they're doing, but she has no inclination to harm them, even when they are sitting on her head. One of these days I'll have a camera in hand when it happens.

during the night.
I was asleep and didn't even know she was out and about. But I heard a scream, and kinda woke up. The nightlight was on in the tank I had my breeding girls in, so I peeked at it and figured one just got annoyed at the other and let her know. I went to lie down again, just turned out the light when I heard a scream again and realized it was from the OTHER side of the room.

I turned the bedroom light on to see my cat, half asleep and totally confused by the female leo hissing and trying to snap at his tail. She ended up laying eggs the next day. Just as lucky as you are I suppose O_O

The other cat in the house tho.... She's a brat. 5 minutes alone in the room and she'll knock shoeboxes over and kick in screens to get at a leo. My favorite girl has a little cut on her side thanks to her. I also had two leos escape (Both found withing 6 hours thankfully) due to her screen kicking.

I've heard my male leo scream, and of course, I got out of bed and turned on the lights, thinking there's something wrong. But nope, he was just standing on top of the half log, waving his tail. I had soaked him earlier that night to help get some dead skin off, so I think he wanted to "challenge" me.
