interesting problem

spider916 Jun 04, 2011 12:15 PM

i have a female that i have had since she was a baby and she has always been aggressive. now she is well over breeding size and i have tried 3 different males with her. the problem is she is a bully and beats them up. she pins them against the side of the cage and strikes at them closed mouth. i tried putting her into their cage and she does the same thing. i resexed her again just to make sure i didnt have huge male but she is deffinatly a female. what can i do to help the boys out. if she was a normal i might just move her on to a new owner, but she isnt so i would like to get some babies out of her. thanks for the help.

It sounds to me that a few things may be going on.

I think that if "she" is infact a she, then she is not interested in breeding. Also, your males may be too small to get her "in the mood".

There could also be other physiological issues that are unknown with her.

i appreciate the reply. the males i have tried with her are well seasoned males both are breeders for several years now and have fathered 3 cluthes each for the last 3 years. i dont think it is them. this girl is 1700 gms empty. i didnt breed her last year because she seemed a little small to me but she really put on a good growth spurt and looks good. she was a captive born by a friend of mine and i have had her since she was 150 gms. seh has always been jumpy and very quick to bite while in her cage. once out she is fine for the most part, a little flighty, but ok. i dont handle her except to clean. i tried putting her into the males cages to see if it was a cage territory thing but it made no difference. i really dont know what to do.

just keep trying her...feed her and see what happens....

try putting all three males in at once...don't go away...you'll have a brawl, but maybe she'll see them fighting over her and take the winner...keep one in after they are there awhile and see if she likes one....it may take just 5 minutes and you'll be sick of the big fight...they might all go at it...the males may not fight...???...never know....

lower temps? raise temps?....feed more, stop feeding?...change cage....anything...

I would say keep trying....I have an albino female tyhat won't breed at all....and all she has ever seen was a pied male for the last 2 years....I won't try another male...I keep trying ...so does he....

Are you positive that "she" is a she? Sounds very much like combative males to me.

i am as positive as i can be. she has been popped and probed. she weighs 1700 gms. i am at a loss. all suggestions are great.

>>all suggestions are great.

Try this; take a normal female that you have had lay eggs for you before, and put her in with this "combative female"..If they lock up,then you do indeed have yourself a male!

I kept one "female" back for two whole years!Only to later pop sperm plugs from "her" during the following breeding season..(Just because some hemi-penes are really short doesn't mean that they aren't there.lol)

Good luck

I like this suggestion the best. If you have a female of breeding age that you could put with "her", do it, and let us know!

she is a 1700gm he. i put one of my many breeding females in and watched. after a few minutes he didnt try to breed her but i was able to pop out one of his hemipenes. i guess he probs like a girl and has great control of his penes. i have never been able to pop him until now. i guess you throw a pretty girl in the cage and its a little easier. now its back to the drawing board. oh well. thanks for the replies i knew something wasnt adding up.
