got babies!

varanid Jun 05, 2011 12:59 PM

Got home for a trip out to California for my baby brother's wedding. Knew there was a chance eggs would hatch while i was gone. 3 did, 3 more pipping. The ones that hatched so far look like DH axanthic/white side. The other clutch only has one pipping and I can't tell yet.
The three that hatched are good sized, a bit snappy, but are now set up in tubs with paper towels, moist moss hides, water and cork or broken pots.

Wedding was pretty but got 0 herping in; the only day that it wasn't godawful weather was the wedding day, and well, as brother of the groom and best man I was a bit busy (and a bit drunk after the reception...3 Long Islands, 2 white russians and 2 drinks I can't say the name of here).

had to get the memory card cleaned of wedding/trip photos (all 300 of them) before photographing the babies. One clutch has entirely emptied out of the eggs, the other has pipping but nothing's actually out. Here's a few pics:

None of the ones of babies out of egg turned out all that well. Here's some in egg:

those're all DH white side & axanthic. None of hte others are out enough for me to see anything.

It's a trip how they slit the egg. When I first saw photos of snakes hatching I thought the slits were all man made. I thought the baby snakes chewed a hole in the egg wall to get out! LOL!

Congrats! Were you talking about having 5 women (3 from LI and 2 white Russians) and only 2 drinks? Wow, maybe I should spike my males water during breeding season. Congrats on the hatchlings anyway!
