Pre-lay shed to lay

metalpest Jun 05, 2011 03:30 PM

How long do your pituophis take to lay eggs after the pre-lay shed? Mine like to go 14-16 days, seems so long. I was getting worried about my black pine but she laid last night, day 15 post shed. Waiting on another Northern female to lay, today is day 14.

My bullsnakes 8-9 days.

That's more what I'd expect, but I've never had a pit that early! My kings and milks lay at that rate all the time, wondering if I need to fix my setup for the pituophis.

I am at day 12 since my female shed and she hasn't dropped eggs yet. Starting to have that same feeling you have. It should come any time though she's crawling around like mad trying to decide where to lay, apparently the lay box is not very fitting to her liking, which makes me wonder if she will just lay on the cypress mulch.

Mine have done that before too, but eventually they settle down in the right spot.

My southern pine is on day ten from her pre lay shed. She was restless as hell up until 2 nights ago and has not come out of the lay box. So i hope she is getting ready

Seems mine normally lay in around 10-11 days, but this year ALL my colubrids are running late. Driving me nuts! I thought it was just me? May have something to do with ambient air temps? It may be cooler in my snake (living) room this year.

I do keep mine in the mid to upper 70s, no extra heat. Maybe that is a factor.

14 days later...7 Good looking eggs. Not bad for her first clutch!
