Have you wrote any books about Kingsnakes?
I don't post here very often, but I do read everything that is written. It seems that every time I turn around someone is misidentifying a snake and you are correcting them with not only sometime pictures, but an explanation on how, why, and where and genetics stuff. I am all about pictures and facts. I would buy a book that had just that in it. Pictures and facts about color, identification, genetics and common mistakes people make on identifying. If you could get started on that book project, I would appreciate it. LOL
DAVY
Well, thanks for the vote of confidence there Davy. No, I never have, but who knows, maybe one day something could happen. I am sure it would be quite a task for whoever did try to tacle this, as there are so many things regarding it that are simply unknown. I really only know some of the basics in my opinion, but a very large percentage of the herp hobby seems to know substantially less about what actually does what.
I certainly agree with you about there being many common misconceptions, and improperly used genetic terms when it comes to snake genetics in this hobby. But there is still plenty of things that I, nor anybody else really knows anything about, and can only assume certain things. Alot of times, I find that I know enough about certain things to be even more confused than "Joe-Blow" off the street to be quite honest..LOL!
It really would be cool to see a basic, inexpensive pamphlet book explaining about the different types of pigment cells(chromatophores), their proper terminology, and some of the basic dynamics of how they work. Sometimes they can be insanely complex, while other things regarding pigments and genetics can be relatively simple and straight forward.
That really is a great idea you have though. It sure would help tons of people out there for sure. Alot of info can be found about it here and there from different sources, but a simple book that had alot of this info in one place to refer to would be a very good thing.
cheers, ~Doug
