Female vs Male Pricing

repcouture Jun 07, 2011 07:43 AM

Why are some female morphs priced higher than males, and vice versa? Does it have to do with the way the genes are carried?

Because some morph females are often more rare due to people keeping the ones they produce.
I know if I produce any gargoyle females next season not a single one is leaving (I mean...unless I get like 10 eggs and they're ALL female gargoyles...but I doubt that.)

it can depend, take the banana ball, i saw a posting on the classifieds for them a month or two back, 3 females, 10 thou a piece, 1 male 50 thou. Because it is a co-dom (or dom, i havent heard 100% which) the male would be more in demand because you can breed it to a group of normal females and get banana's but a female you can only breed 1 at a time so you could only get 1 clutch from a banana female vs. multiple clutches from a male banana to group of normals (or any other females)

in the case of the banana gene......

it's known that this particular gene has a proven statistical rate of producing females. there's only a few males that have even been produced...that i'm aware of....i could be wrong

but....that's why that $50K tag is on the male.

You only need one male to breed to many females, so there is a lot less demand for males unless it is still a a pretty new/rare morph.

JLBalls has it pretty much on the head. When new Morphs come in or are discovered the males are almost always priced higher. The reason being that you can grow a male up to breeding size in a year and use him on several females. Females take on average about 3 yrs to mature and grow into breeding size.. People that have these newer Morphs know that so the males are sold for much more in the begining. Now years down the road when that morph is much more widely available with such things as the Spiders, Albinos, Mojos and all those common Morphs the females become more expensive. Jay
