Mandarin Pastels! 1st USA litter....

perfectpredators Jun 08, 2011 10:40 AM

I think this is the 1st ever litter produced here in the states. Regardless here is a litter I was very excited about this year so I want to share them here on the forum. IMO Mandarins are gorgeous, and remain so as full grow adults too. I have not seen many of these around, perhpas many havent learned about them enough as they have about other pastel lines. Anyway I picked up a pair in 2008 and was lucky to produce this litter by pairing a Male Mandarin to a Female Chery line Salmon. I cant say for sure if these are all hypo and Mandarin Pastel or just Mandarin Pastel, however I will be looking closely after their first shed and compare them with the adults. I believe the future is bright, Im hoping to see in my room or made by others Mandarin Jungles, Mandarin Motleys, Mandarin Aztecs, VPI's, and soooo many great combos. Tons of Potential here!!

See a 2008 Pastel at 2 years and 30-36 inches:

here are today's babies:

I hope you like them as much as I do.

Wow it's a beautiful litter but a little confusing. Was the Cherry Salmon a Super Salmon ?

How does the Mandarin trait work . . . Polygenic, or Dominant or something else ?

Congratulations on another beautiful litter !

its not sure larry as the normals could be mandarins and technically that is not a normal. then the salmon takes it for a second round of cleaning. so its going to take some guess work. polygenic is my bet.

DeHart Jun 08, 2011 03:50 PM

From some previous posts, I thought you and several other regulars here were against "polygenic morphs." From what I've read of Mandarins, the origins are somewhat obscure, but it may be a true genetic morph.

perfectpredators Jun 08, 2011 06:01 PM

nor what posts you are referring to, nor whom specifically are you referring to in your generalization here, but personally I love anything that gives color polygenic or genetic. I agree with you -- now, however after viewing this breeding, that this IS genetic, and rumor has it that we will see a super soon.

DeHart Jun 08, 2011 06:54 PM

Perhaps I am mistaken then

I think I saw a pic once of a supposed "super," over on a German site...I think they're only waiting for repeated results to confirm before announcing it, though. They are impressive. Waiting now to see the sunglows

I don't know if there's such a thing as too much orange in a boa. You haven't reached it though. Those are outstanding. Great color.

CONGRATULATIONS ONCE AGAIN MANNY!!! What a year you are having. I would love to find out more info on the "Mandarins". I cant wait to see what they look like after they shed a couple of times.

perfectpredators Jun 08, 2011 06:07 PM

Lucas its one of those morphs that the jury is not back yet on. However since this morning when i posted this thread, i have looked at the outcome better, did a bit of researching and I am now of the opinion that this is a genetic morph. 90% sure, also there is a super about to surface which will put the 10% in on top of my 90...

Looks remarkably similar to some other boas I've saw recently, if you ask me.

perfectpredators Jun 09, 2011 05:54 PM

what is this link supposed to be? a Mandarin Belly Pastel or Super version, because that is not the super ive seen, in case that is what you meant to link....

DeHart Jun 10, 2011 07:33 AM

This was the early info' available on the subject, which seems to indicate that Mandarin is similar to the "jungle" gene....I'm going to say the "super" you saw looked much more T and not necessarily as striped. I would appreciate an email (reptixotic@yahoo.com)to give me an idea of your anticipated price range on babies, and I will discuss further. I don't believe Mr. Winner wanted to go public with "possible" info and have to revise it later and be blamed for releasing prematurely.

DeHart Jun 09, 2011 12:57 PM

Might I inquire as to the criteria (traits) that you go by when determining what is and is not a "Mandarin belly" in this litter?

cbmorphs Jun 09, 2011 01:02 PM

Congrats on another REALLY SWEET litter Manny! Your right, I bet those would look great mixed in with the VPI's and other caramel lines too, along with Aztecs and Key Wests...soooo many options, limited only by ones imagination and pocket book, of course! lol

ps. I'd still love to have one of your Aztecs/Hytecs but then I need more boas, like I need a hole in the head! ahhh, what's one more...
