the sad side of herping

rtdunham Jun 08, 2011 11:26 AM

Eastern Milk, Boone Co., KY, 6/3/11. I estimated between 30-36". Upon reviewing the pic I re-estimate at just over 30", assuming those side-of-road white stripes are 4" wide. I found a slightly smaller DOR on the same state highway but in Campbell Co., KY, earlier this year. Haven't seen a live one yet. I need to plant some AC.

It does suck... I've "rescued" 5 snapping turtles over the last two weeks but was too late for the painted turtle I happened across on my drive home yesterday... had to help him along in a different way than I did the snappers.

I stop to see what kind...my wife thinks I'm insane for stopping and running back to identify it, but I just can't help myself.

P.S. Terry, just shot 77 last week, a tie for my best round ever!

Hi, Rusty. I had my 91-year-old mom in the car with me when I stopped to check the milk snake. She's known me 65 years, so she understands all too well. Though she still teases me about it.

Congratulations. I'm still struggling. (Or am i just saying that to tempt you into finally playing with me sometime when i'm back in florida this fall?)

Just shoot me an e-mail or give me a call.

I'm over on the East Coast...so maybe we can meet in half way in the Orlando area.

I'm playing here today:

It's an awesome course for flat land Florida!

If you have roadcuts in your area, try flipping rocks on and around them. I've heard of a lot of eastern milks being found in Kentucky this way. If you ever decide you want to hunt the sand prairie in Indiana/Illinois for bull snakes, I'd almost guarantee a few eastern milks.
