Rapides Parish P. ruthveni?

Relict Jun 09, 2011 10:54 PM

Is anyone here still working with the authentic Rapides Parish P. ruthveni from years ago? I read a post from 2005 where KJ was fearful about them being lost due to inbreeding depression.

i don't know anyone breeding them. the irony of the situation is that there probably weren't enough breeedings to create the problem of inbreeding depression. once in a while daryl camby appears here, he may have more info than i do, not sure who else these days is working with strict bloodlines.

Thank you, Dave.
In all of my dealings with P. ruthveni, I have never really seen anyone claiming to have Rapides Parish animals recently. The same with Veron Parish animals. All of mine are Bienville Parish -- Vandeventer-Young (Bienville??), wild Bienville Parish, and Memphis Zoo stock (Bienville).
I have spoken to Daryl before and he seems to really know his stuff. It's a shame that he does not come around much anymore. I guess he, like Jim Kane, got tired of all the bullshibby about pure and impure animals etc...
That sure is a nice LA pine in your photo, Dave. Highly contrasting color pattern there. I heard that back in the day you were quite a breeder of LA pines yourself.

i think the photo was a bit overexposed but he was a nice straw yellow. if you are looking for some screamers talk to terry vandeventer about his cookies and cream bloodline. don't know if he is still breeding them but was unrelated to almost everything else he had if i remember correctly.

i really loved working with the pines. some day i would like to have a nice lodingi and ruthveni again!

if you ever have the opportunity, take a trip to the memphis zoo.great facility and great people. when my wife and i were there in '04 i had mentioned to one of the keepers (chris baker?) in the herpetarium that i was (at the time) working with captive ruthveni. we ended up receiving a two hour behind the scene tour. then steve reichling spoke to us in his office for at least 45 minutes. that day was off the chart.

Dave,
I have exchanged several e-mails with Terry over the last two years, and sadly his C&C bloodline seems to be no more....or at least he did not have any specimens that he could offer me sired by that spectacular male he had. I forget the actual circumstances around his demise, but it was a very unique sire for sure.

I have been in touch with Steve Reichling here and there over the last two years. I have plans to bug him in person this Spring when I make my way back to Louisiana for some more herping this Spring. I hope I get the same rock star treatment you got!!
