What kind of boa??

KeViN_CSV_06 Jun 10, 2011 01:47 AM

I just recently got this boa from someone and I was just wondering if anyone can help me out as to what she is so I took some pictures of her tonight while feeding. She has a really nice and clean pattern which I really like from her with perfect circles going down her body and her tail is a very very dark brown to almost black it seems like. Thank you for any help in advance

I couldn't put more than three pictures on the last message so here are a couple more of her, note that these pictures were taken of her from a cell phone in a garage at night so quality isn't the best. She looks nicer in person

Your question is quite common so I actually wrote a blog to answer it a couple of months ago. I've referred quite a few people to it who have had your question (others have as well).

Enjoy your new boa!

What's written above is purely my opinion. In fact, MOST of what you read on the internet is someone's opinion. Don't take it too seriously

Oh well thanks for that but I wasn't trying to refer to her as any type of morph or anything. And I'm not planning on selling her/breeding her, I'm keeping her just as a pet. I was just curious if there was anything that could lead to "maybe" where her origins or any information like that. I know that nothing is for sure and that all these ideas are just "guesses". Thanks again though

Great post JB...... it seems like there are weekly posts asking this .... It always included a picture of a pet store variety BC imperator..... But people are always thinking that they have some sort of morph.... LOL... that's fine and all... Most times they are people that know little about boas... and they are just asking questions..... What gets me is.. people that chime in and say stuff like " YOu have a Central American... or Colombian pastel....LOL etc etc....

All from a picture.... It;s quite amusing..

I'm not sure if that was aimed towards my post or just a thought in general but if it was towards my post I believe I did say that I knew she wasn't any sort of morph or some special type of boa. Just was wondering a little about where her background may be from.

The bottom picture makes it look like your new boa's face is swollen/puffy. Is that the case? If so, I really recommend a vet visit sooner rather than later.

Joshpainter Jun 10, 2011 09:42 AM

pics are while feeding so that might be an "adjustment" of the jaw... that is a common bci.

KeViN_CSV_06 Jun 10, 2011 11:06 AM

Oh no her face isn't swolen its because she had just passed the rat down from eating and besides that she has a pretty big brick-like head to her also. Thanks though

Looks like a common, normal, Colombian type Boa.

From looking at this image it also looks like it probably is going
into shed and might be close to having a Respiratory Infection.

The first thing I did when I got her was to take her to the vet just to make sure if she was healthy. I didn't want to bring any sick boas home that could potentially get my other boas sick as well. She does seem like she is going to go in to shed soon but other than that she is perfectly healthy. Thanks

I think it's from Colombia and I'm taking a shot in the dark saying its from the small fishing village area of Taganga!! Beautiful Boa might I say as well.
