lighting/ wiring question

RyanVa Jun 13, 2011 05:18 PM

Posted this in the cage design forum. Figured I would get more play here.

I am about to build a new inclosure for my trio of ackies. My problem lies in the heating/ lighting. I want to mount 2 or 3 bulbs in a row inside the cage. Would a regular porcelain light socket work? Also how exactly should I wire them? Pictures helpful. Thank you

I would think its not a very good idea to attempt to learn something on a monitor, that may burn your house down, So

Go to home depot or lowes and buy a basic wiring book, its cheap and will help in more ways then just liting a cage.

It will teach you how to include switches or reostats, etc. Good luck.

Probably the best idea right there. Thank you.

Not sure what your lighhting/heat requirements are but in my 8' long Igg cage I used halogen "under cabinet lighting" Example
which comes in packs of 6 and is pretty much already wired up. This provides some heat but becasue there is so much volume in that cage I have to supplemet it with nighttime heat bulbs and a basking bulb to keep all of the temps right.

If you were looking for more heat and better directional control of your lighting you may want to look into a halogen fixture with mutiple bulbs. I think This may be what you are looking for.

Either way with these types of bulbs there is the potential for the temps to get very high so make sure you double check your temps before putting the lizard in the cage.

Hope this helps a little
