Breeding buying help please?!

dylpro Jun 14, 2011 10:01 PM

I'm looking into getting into the breeding projects of ball pythons. I'm very excited and I really want to breed Fire fire to get black eyed lucys. I know fires are difficult to identify from normal's and I don't want to get screwed over if I buy a normal for the price of a fire. Can someone give me a site where they know I will not get ripped off. And how can I tell the difference between a fire and a normal. When I breed them what are the chances that I will get a lucy? Please help me!

Also my current ball python is a normal but today I noticed a strange redness on its underbelly. Is this something I should be concerned about?

Not sure about Fire sellers, but as far as the reddish/pinkish under belly, I believe it could be starting the shed cycle. That's normally an indicator for my pied.

Welcome to the ball python forum!

Fires are not difficult to tell from normals. Fires have clear belly scales, normals have black, speck type markings on the belly scales. Fires are brighter than normals and usually have a faded spot on the head. You can see a Super Fire and Fire combos in the Gallery on my site.

When you breed Fire to Fire each egg has a 25% chance to be a Black Eyed Leucistic.

After a shed or two the fires start to color up, and the redness on the belly is probably due to a shed cycle.

if you have a fire and a normal both right in front of you....i'll bet my pay check of $2.00 that you will be able to tell which is a fire...if my son can do it....i'm sure you can too.
