She might explode!!!!

IkeLightner Jun 15, 2011 12:18 PM

Hey Everyone,

Just updating you all on my gravid female Lucille. She was looking absolutely huge last night when I checked on her. I have never seen her look this fat and uncomfortable the entire gestation. She has not eaten since February though she still seems to be getting bigger and bigger!!!

These pics were taken 6/14/11 with no flash and do an accurate job of displaying her amazing colors!!

This is killing me becasue I have her pegged as due on June 25th and I am going to be out of town in Florida from the 18th-25th!!!!! Ahhhh thats going to be the first vacation I've ever been dying to get done with.

These last two pics were taken with a flash and they really washed out her colors. Lucillee looks nothing like thse two pics color-wise but they do a great job of showing you how fat she is getting and how separated her scales have become!!!!

Enjoy, and I hope everyone has great, healthy litters this season!!!

Hey thanks Cliff!!! I better get the bubble wrap out (; This is actually her first litter though she was born July of 2006 putting her right at 5 years old now. She came from down south where she spent the first few years of her life on a "diet" though she has caught up nicely since moving to Missouri.

Heres to hoping for a healthy litter!!!! Any sort of numbers would be a great bonus!!!

LOL, pretty clear to me where/who she came from...

Glad she's doing well for you and no longer on a diet!!

Again, she's gorgeous!!!

beautiful pregnant rainbow. yeah.. rainbows are different. when they're pregnant, they'll literally starve themselves for about eight months. after they give birth, they look really emaciated and you would expect them to feed very well but some are actually fussy. that's when i start panicking. what usually does the trick for my females to get them back on feed is ft large mice. below is a pict of my 3 year old anery rainbow who's pregnant right now. i was hesistant to breed her because of her age but she looked like she's doing ok.

IkeLightner Jun 17, 2011 08:21 AM

Hey, thanks a lot for the advice!!! I never really considered the possibility that they would be slow eaters after giving birth. I have always just assumed that they would be ravenous feeders at any chance they got afterwards.

Also, very nice anerys!!!!!

What did you breed to your gravid anery female there??

she was bred to an anery. i have quite a few anery x anery that are pregnant. one of the female anerys that are pregnant has never dropped a infertile slug.

here's a funny story. from 2005 to 2007, i think i released at least 15 or so anery babies on the wholesale level for $75 each until dumb ass me figured out that with certain of my brb breedings i was getting 1/4 anerys. hahaha... so if you want anerys this year, they'll be a bumper crop to pick from. not that there aren't any right now available already on ks. was tempted to make double het for ghosts but will probably do that next year. but then again, i might just wait until ian (outback) releases the pure albino brbs. he's playing his poker hand very well with them and keeping it hushhhhh.

yeah.. rainbows are beautiful and fun to work with. i remember a decade ago a cb brb was worth a fortune! pregnant rainbows drive me nuts when they haven't fed for 8 months! after they give birth they look like a rail and i'm embarassed to show anybody because they think i'm abusing my rainbows

rainbowsrus Jun 15, 2011 04:49 PM

She looks great, even in the off color pics!!!

Don't worry about the babies, they will do just fine with mom. You will have to watch out for mom, once she recuperates from having babies, they can get a bit defensive.

The cage needs tp be baby proof:
No escape points and make sure the water bowl is shallow and/or give the babies an easy way to crawl out just in case mom drops the litter in water.

I have come home from vacation to babies several years in a row.

Thanks for the reassurance Dave!!

I have actually already decreased her water bowl to about 1/2 or maybe 1/3 capacity and added a nice fake tree half in and half out for the babies to climb out if they end up needing the help.

I am not looking forward to seeing the protective AND recuperated mother, my last litter I found the female right after and she was in a daze she was so exhausted.

At any rate, I can't wait to see whats in there!!!
