Calico Champagne

dwherp Jun 16, 2011 10:52 AM

This little guy hatched out yesterday. Not what I expected, but certainly not disappointed. Should be fun to watch the Calico colors come in.

Cheers,
Dan

Wasn't it the Pastel Calico Champagne that came out six months or so ago that was so hot? I think it was from Europe.
Nice snakes as always.

dynastyreptiles Jun 16, 2011 01:01 PM

I think the question to be ask is if the snake that was produce last year was ever a pastel calico champagne?

dwherp Jun 16, 2011 01:57 PM

The animal that has been called the Pastel Calico Champagne was captive bred in Africa last year and sold in Europe. If that is truly what it is, then it is definitely counterintuitive to what would be expected based on the looks of the Pastel Champagne and the Calico Champagne. I think we also need to keep in mind that all Calicos/Sugars may not be the same thing.

I have a shot at a Pastel Calico Champagne leter this season, and I think a few other breeders may also, so hopefully all our questions will be answered soon!

Regards,
Dan

for reference here's the pics i took of that snake when i was at the Hamm, Germany show last year. this snake was pretty much one of the brightest balls i've seen EVER......i'm curious to know what it looks like now?

pastel,spotnose calico

WinstonHS Jun 16, 2011 12:53 PM

That animal is going to look killer! I can only imagine that in the mimosa verion. I cant wait to see that thing develope, if it does anything close to what the super pastel champ did with age it will be mind blowing! Please keep us posted.

I am thinking now that maybe what we thought were pictures of pastel calico champagne and calico champagne were actually both pastel calico champagnes tat displayed some variation.

DavidGreen Jun 16, 2011 01:28 PM

Very nice Dan, can't wait to see it as it matures.

sloanreptiles Jun 16, 2011 01:37 PM

I like it! Congrats Dan! Do you have any clutches that could produce Pastel Calico Champs?

So far, I have one clutch coming from Champ X Pastel Calico... with a little luck maybe I'll be able to shed some light on this mystery. What new Champ surprises are you guys working on this year?

Best wishes,
Dan

sloanreptiles Jun 16, 2011 03:53 PM

Awesome! Nothing new for us this year, should have some more Mimosas, Mojave Champs, Lesser Champs and maybe some Pastel Champs. We tried for some new stuff but the females didn't lay! You know how that goes!

Whoops, for some reason I didn't see the rest of this thread before my last post, hope you hit on the pastel calico champ. I imagine they will prove to be pretty variable. Just look at the variety in pastel calicos from the same clutch/line.
