Questions about sexing/breeding spotted pythons

vulcan Sep 29, 2003 10:11 PM

I was wondering if anyone knew of a reliable way to sex spotted pythons. I aquired a CB Cape York spotted python two years ago. At the time she was labled as a female. She is two years and four months old now and I have decided to get her a breeding partner/cage-mate at the IRBA show in San Diego October 18th & 19th. I now want to know if my python is truely a female and if so, how can I tell if the new python will be a male (or visa versa)? Also what would be the proper way to introduce them? Finally, does anyone know where I can get info on breeding spotted pythons? I've heard that it's easy but I want to do it right.
Thanks for the input.

Probing is the most accurate way to sex a python. Find an experienced herper or a vet to probe your snake if you are not familiar with the method. Here is a link to breeding spotteds that I found: http://www.smuggled.com/BriBar10.htm If you can find some information on breeding any childrens or other pythons that might help as well.

Good Luck!
Brett
