My First Ultramels!

pfan151 Jun 17, 2011 08:02 AM

Can't complain about these odds! This started out as a 5 egg clutch from my het ultramel pair. I felt pretty good about my chances of hitting at least one Ultra. Then, about half way through incubation, two eggs went bad. At that point I was thinking that I would probably end up getting nailed and end up with no visuals. I candled them at about day 40 and two of them looked much lighter than the 3rd. That gave me hope but I figured it would be too good to be true. When I cut them last week I was definitely excited to see that I actually did hit on two. These are my first Ultramels and I think they may already be my favorite of any snakes that I have hatched so far. Ended up with 1.1 Ultramels.

WOW! First I ever saw them...only recently heard the term ultramel being used with balls...those are my new favorites!! Imagine Ultramel pieds...now that would be sick!

actually those pieds down below look like they may even be ultramels or caramels....but anyway...great morph!!!

Could someone explain the true difference between Ultramels and Caramels?

From my understanding, the Ultramel is a different line of caramel that doesn't have near as much kinking and other problems associated with the Caramel genetics.

So, it would be compadible with the current lines?

Thanks guys.

Actually, they are not compatible with any of the normal caramel lines. They are two completely different morphs. There is a double recessive combo out there of a caramel ultramel. Vin Russo produced it and called it a camarillo. Caramels and ultramels look pretty different as adults and ultramels have no kinking issues.

Not sure if I can post an image of the camarillo, but here is a link to a good picture on Vin Russo's site.

Are you trying to claim that there is no difference between them?

difference

one is caramel
one is ultramel

(just like an albino and a lavender albino...)....

they aren't the same...they would make double hets if bred together....

ultramels make no kinks...therefore cost more....and are more bright and nice...

caramels....been around awhile....yet still dropped in price due to the kink issues...

I bought caramel.....and am making honeybees het caramel and pastel ghosts het caramel hopefully....wish me luck...

hopefully ultramels breed like fire...so the price drops and we can all buy more of them....!!!!...

I would say it's marketing (or bad marketing) due to kinking.

But it's definitely two different morphs as it had been proved.
Here is the caramillo
