I have a few questions about this sepcies, i've noticed there alot of info on them but none tell you how big of an aquarium you need for one. The reason i'm asking is the local herp shope got two of these guys in and i think there the coolest looking things ever. So i was wondering basics how much one should cost and what type of tank i should have, i have a florida softshell well 2 and i thought this would be my step up. Any way anyone out there with adavise is great needed in aiding my desion.

These guys seem to be the next trendy thing in turtles. The price seems to be whatever the market will bear. I have seen them priced from $300 to $1000 depending upon size. And it will be even worse if an albino one shows up!

Not sure if you were saying that you wanted to put one in with your softshell turtles. DON'T this species is HIGHLY AGGRESSIVE toward it's own kind and will definitely think that your softies are FRT's. Plus they like different water conditions.

You need to think big. They can get up to 55cm SCL. If you are looking for a tank size that will be good for the animal for it's entire life 300 gallons would be a minimum start. 2ft wide by 3ft high by 8 feet long.

Price range is usually 3-400 dollars for animals that are around 3-4 inches.

If you want one please do lots of homework on how to care for them BEFORE you make a purchase. (for example: Have a well cycled tank set up BEFORE you buy the animal.) These turtles do not follow all your more common turtle husbandry rules.

FRT care is totally different from other softshells and id agree with honuman's post about getting a big tank, they need the space and excellent water quality.
