Hoppy Feb 08, 2003 12:22 PM

i would like to see what some of you guys are using for record keeping, some sort of text document or small program that you might be using
please e-mail me whator post what it is that you use, I think it is time that I got out of the 1970's and joined the 21st centrey with everyone else.
Thanks

Quite honestly I dont think "software" is necessary. Then again Im not some big name breeder with tons of snakes to keep records of, but I think that all you would need a some sort of excell sheet. For my records I track ...

Feeding - what day, how many rats/mice per snake, and if they were calcium coated

Bowel movement (for the snakes in individual tanks) - i note if it was the normal solid fur chunks with the added white chunk (urate??) - I note if the substrate is heavily soaked etc

Shedding - I spray the shed with a little bit of watter and uncrumple and flatten out the entire piece, once dry ill fold it up and place it in a bag and place it in the freezer for future reference

Size - im starting to do this with my babies. Ill take their measurements ever month and at time of shed

Photo records - I dont have a nice digi cam, but I use my cam on my handheld. Ill take photo pics every month along with the size.

Thats really all I track, other than misc notes about activity, heat, and their movement withing the tank according to the temps within the enclosure. Im wanting to build seperate tanks for my babies -right now they are either always bunched up sprawled out under the basking area - and would like to see if they would rather be in their own separate enclosure, or if they would like to be in pairs, trios ..etc etc

Jim,

I wrote a small web app to keep all of my information. You can see what it collects by clicking here.

I have another page that lets me input the information. This one just displays the info. I like it because no matter where I go I can check my records.
