I also had the privilege of seeing Mr. Haast at the Miami Serpentarium when I took a trip there with a few high school buddies. I was very impressed with the 8 foot indigo he had and later in life had one myself for several years. His wife looked about 30 years younger. Maybe there is something to that snake venom. I remember he had a 2 headed fox snake and a 15 foot alligator. Grabbed those cobras with his bare hands. Never forget it. He was a cool dude.

That man was a Man's Man! you know what I mean? The guys wanted to be like him and the women wanted him. The true "most intereseting man in the world" I got to meet him several times here in Miami and saw him do those exceptional milking venom shows. He lived to 100! and everyone thought he was slowly killing himself by self inducing venom...I think he was on to something the pharmaceutical firms dont was us to know...My dad has got a box somewhere with pictures of me and him together, however I have a picture at the Miami Serpentarium (Mr. Haast theme park) which captures when my was changed forever. Until this picture my love with reptiles, was mostly turtles and lizards, some snakes, but I wasnt too into the garden snakes and stuff we collected here in South Florida backyards, I loved collecting box turtles on the side of the road or lizards much more. BUT HERE IS THE DAY I MET A BOA. it was a Colombian Rainbow Boa albeit, but it was still muscular and majestic, it changed my life and then I met the Boa Constrictor and the rest is history...here's the pic:

R.I.P. - I remember as a kid in elementary school we had field
trips to the serpentarium a number of times.

I still remember how impressive it was to see a king cobra, loose
& upright at over 5 feet staring right at him, trying to steer
him and corner him. It is something I'll never forget.
