at what stage in egg development?

adamjeffery Jun 19, 2011 01:23 AM

i was just wondering if the information is out there on ball python egg development. such info as when the eyes are formed and when the pattern arrives and when color develops. i was reading another forum where someone cut the eggs and the snake looked as if it had not gained its color. everyone stated that color was last to develop. well then i thought about it, thats just what i have been told but i dont "really" now that. i would like to read up on the whole process if the info is available. i tried searching google but i am not sure how to properly word the search.
any help or first hand knowledge would be appreciative.

When I die, I want to go peacefully like my Grandfather did, in his sleep -- not screaming, like the passengers in his car.

Whomever told you that the color/pattern was the last thing to develop was correct.

I'm sure there is still some internal development going on in the final week or so, but any time that I've cut open my eggs early the babies inside always look like something special. (Well, I should say, MORE special than expected.)

They generally appear to have a reduced pattern (at about day 56) and are very light in color. High white sides. Almost like you've got a clutch of cool looking Spiders instead of whatever you were expecting.

As far as the rest of the development process goes, I really can't help you there. Looking up python egg development might yield some decent results for you. Other wise, check out your local University library. You might get lucky enough to find a book or two that possibly would answer your questions. I can't guarantee that the book would show "Ball Python" development specifically, but I would suppose that despite general differences in incubation temperature and duration, all (or most) pythons follow a similar development order/process.

Arrgghh!!!! Hypo DOES NOT equal "Ghost". It's a HYPO, people! The "GHOST" is an Axanthic X Hypo. Popularity and laziness getting in the way of education yet again.

Try the Richard Ross book! It's been over 20 years since I've read it, but I think they had some detail on embryo development!
