Nicest w/c

joecop Jun 20, 2011 02:40 AM

Well, opinions are like ----you know the saying, but this is MY nicest w/c snake to date. From CA, I introduce you to the reduced black coast animal. (locality not included )

Sorry for the crappy pics, I will take some nice ones outside in a few days. Hope you like him!!

Why not include the locale? It is not like someone is going to cruise up and down Santa Cruz mtns because you posted a pic of one from there.

Anyway, it is a super nice coastal mtn kingsnake. But more info would make it more interesting.

Rainer, it is a Santa Cruz animal. He did however come from an isolated area that does not contain much habitat. I will say that much. Thanks for the compliment on the animal.

Was it BD?

BD has a ton of habitat, all of which is state-protected.

Rainer,

Actually, people do just that. In the past I've posted photos of animals with their locales, just to find that two to three groups of people then were around the same local vicinity within a week. Honestly, you mean to tell me you don't believe that people who live in the area where these things are found, won't hit the hills after seeing a snake of this calibur? It's not paranoia, it's fact, and it happens all the time. That's why it's best sometimes to post pictures of highly sought after animals after the season for collecting them has past. Myself, and many other zonata-folk have begun to practice this technique - as we're tiring of having to fix the rock and cover items in areas hit by people who surf these forums looking for tidbits of info of when and where to go.

And Joe is right, the site this animal came from is so fricken' small that a single person can decimate the habitat in a matter of minutes. Over the past six years I've seen eight animals at this site, and if people found out about it I guarantee you I would see no more.

Incredible that you just found this splendid creature! So far this year I have found gopher snakes, assorted lizards, toads, frogs and the ubiquitous rattlesnake. Am so envious!

Thanks Bob. I was blown away myself. I had a great deal of help in locating him, so I can't take the credit for that. Being that I live on the east coast and it cost big bucks just to get out to the west coast, I am more then happy to let my friends lead the way. I would do the same for them, and have for some, if they came out to the east coast. Most of the time I find my own spots and animals, but I will make exceptions for far away lands!!
