Project male, finally up to par....

bendig Jun 20, 2011 12:26 PM

I hatched this male back in '06. He was 40 grams when he hatched. Between that and the fact that he'll go off food for 8 months at a time, I didn't think he would ever get to breeding size. He is now approaching 700 grams...at 5 years old, BUT now he has PLUGS! I've had a female waiting for him for two seasons now. The female is 2000 grams, and ovulates like clockwork, so let's just hope this guy has what it takes. I almost sold him a half dozen times, and each time, I talked myself into keeping him. Everyone keep your fingers crossed that his daughters don't take 5 years to reach breeding size. I don't think there is anything spectacular waiting to be produced here, he's just really cool looking, with the stripe down his back, and reduced pattern on his sides, not to mention the neon yellow/orange that is on his belly. I can't really seem to capture that on camera though..

ps, for the first eighteen months of his life, I thought he was a she, until I accidentally popped a hemipene out. Oops.
