cages and housing..................................kinda long

herpluver Sep 29, 2003 11:48 PM

ok i was wondering what kind of cages everyone use's. i would rather buy them then make, i really don't have time ( remodeling house). and what sizes should i get? everyone is in ten gallon tanks right now, because they are all still small, but i really don't like glass and would like to start getting adult cages so i'm ready when they out grow the tens. for heat i will be useing heat pads, just incase that matters to your answer. i have 1.3 nelsoni, 1.1 pueblan, 1.2 hondo. with plans for many more hondo's. i have other animals but these are the ones i'm looking to house.

Thanks for the help
Samuel

Honestly, I would look at Freedom Breeder racks if you are serious. It really is an easy method of housing multiple animals with roomy cages. The cost seems high at first but remember, you get alot of cages, so the actual cost per cage is lower than buying Visions or others. See the Suppliers section for Freedom Breeder.

I have some Precision Caging cages (www.precisioncaging.com) and some BARRS cages (www.herpcages.com). These are nice cages and cost effective.

The pic is a rack I made from a closet kit from Home Depot. It is great for Pueblans but would be a little cramped for adult Hondurans. The pic shows the heat pads on each shelf, but I have since moved the heat pads to the ceiling of each shelf. This heats the air below and the box above, so I get away with fewer heat pads and no boxes sliding over heat pads. Works perfectly. This rack now houses a baby Boa constrictor, some adult rosies and a few subadult gophersnakes.
