What is a "moonglow"?

markg Jun 21, 2011 12:34 PM

Is that what you call a boa expressing hypo, anery and amelanistic?

Do they look much different than a typical snow? Any adult pics out there? Thank you.

That's what I like to call them..pretty much that's what it is.
Or you could say its, an anerythristic sunglow.
But yes, it is a boa that is homozygous Hypo, Anery, and Albino.
In the ones I have seen they do appear different, most noticeably the saddle markings, or bowties look like those of a hypo. You can really notice it on the sharp version.
Id like to have a sharp moonglow, be a really neat boa to have.
The link below is to boa basements comparison pics.
Just my simple explanation, hope it helped.

Great reply, thank you.

One more for you and the forum - I see so many ads "Sharp albino" or "het Sharp" etc etc. I was able to find a pic of an adult Sharp albino. To me, it does not look much like a run-of-the-mill Colombian boa. It looks more like BCC or BCI with BCC influence. Is that the case?

I never noticed that. But There is something with the genes, that it may be some form a a T Pos albino, due to the way it interacts with the BWC and Prodigy boas.
Maybe someone else can speak to the BCC thing, but as far as I know it is pure BCI

Not all of them are pure BCI. Some of them have been bred to BCC.

However, the peaks are not uncommon in those Sharps and VPI T Positive albinos which are believed to be without Shield BCC influence.

Additional helpful info: many/ most Colombians key out to be BCC when scale counts are performed.

A Moonglow is a Snow with the addition of the hypo(melanistic) gene. It is a pretty easy trait to see given that the moonglow will show the traditional "bowtie"/"hourglass" saddles of the Hypo gene as opposed to the usual saddles of a normal. They tend to not yellow out as they get older as well... look through the classifieds to see great examples of adult snows( Bill Gaines has some large great photos of Snow adults he is selling) I,personally, have no pics of adult moonglows as all of mine are just babies at the moment. Hope this helps?!?! I was confused too for a while!!
