Pyro Eggs Denting!

pyromaniac Jun 22, 2011 09:55 AM

With plastic lid off. A couple of the pyro eggs are denting. The humidity is proper, so I don't think this denting is from dehydrating.
This is day 59. My friend Herb who breeds pyros has them hatch between 65 and 67 days.
What do you all think? Is this denting to be expected at this time? A few days ago one of the eggs dented but now the dent is gone, but other eggs have dented. I am optimistically assuming there are babies in those eggs moving around.

Bob, I would say you are about to have babies in the next week or so. Not sure what your incubation temps are. I have had pyro eggs hatch at 64 days and at 75 days, depending on temps. I have had LTT eggs hatch in 43 days!! Post pics when they emerge.

The incubation has averaged 78.5 to 80.5 F until fairly recently, when it has been 80.5 to 82.5 F, and I have been deploying my frozen gel packs in the incubator (but not in the actual pan containing the eggs) to prevent it going any warmer for the last week since the weather has got hot. When the heat wave abates I wont need the gel packs. The big eggs are bull snake eggs and they have several weeks to go yet.

Hi Bob, denting at this stage of the game is great, pipping is close by...Yeah, this heat wave sux! im doin what i can to keep incubating temps down. Its cookin here on west coast. Put in big bowl of ice and temp went from 85.5 down to 81.8 although its set for 79*. have 2 week old clutch of alterna eggs and 2nd momma will drop hers in couple more days. Cant wait to see your baby pyros! Dave.

As much of a hassle as this summer heat is, it sure beats snow in mid May. My snakes were mating while everything outside was wintry and white. Brumation was easy; just don't build a fire in the woodstove. God, what a long winter we had!

Great pic. Last winter/spring? allowed me to brumate in my garage until late march. Its why im still waiting for eggs while others are hatching! Dave.

That pic is this last May. I sure hope this is not going to be a trend weather wise. I brought my snakes out of brumation in late January so as to get a head start on the time they have for feeding. I did not expect any of them to breed as the pyros are barely three years old and the bulls are two years old. Then I thought the spring would be "normal" warming up and being soft and green, not hard and white! I would see my snake looking out the window at the icicles and snow and try to imagine what they must have thought. "Glad we are in here nice and warm!"

Im sorry for what happened. my eggs dont look good either. mine are turning green and shrivelling up. i have 5 of them SNAKES eggs.

pyromaniac Jun 22, 2011 05:44 PM

Mine are healthy and just doing the normal denting thing as hatching draws near. Sorry your eggs have failed. But you most likely have learned a lot now and will have better results next time.

The mother Dotz with her mate Mazar; he is the one sort of on top of her. The big one in blue is the other female Zunchara.

The kitty litter looking stuff is my perlite/vermiculite mix and I think the black objects you are referring to are the probes to the thermostat and thermometer.
