What do you use to unlock new morphs?

lairofdragons Jun 22, 2011 09:29 PM

I have seen some people use Pastels, Yellow Bellies and Lesser to unlock new morphs with "dinkers" but what do you use or have used to try to prove out a gene instead of the "offspring line breeding long road" ????????

I have a female that I bred to a Pinstripe just to see what comes out...weird Pins or a replica normal.

She is in POS right now and I attached an old pic just for suggestions or comments.

I have looked at 1000's of pics (really I have) trying to find anything close...no luck. Everyone who has seen her in person all have had the same response..."What the heck is that" or "I have no idea".

I don't know what she is, but I have one too!
Mine is a captive hatch from 09. I'm waiting till next year to breed her (I like my females HUGE when they breed the first time).

You might be a ball python fanatic if you subconsciously convert the price of virtually everything in to units of piebald ball pythons

I guess "unlock" would be a term to use once you have proven something was locked. The only way to prove that something was "locked" is thru breeding.

As far as my thoughts on your specimen. It looks like a pastel of some sort.

Best of luck on your project!

That looks kinda like a really dark (and ugly, no offense) pastel.

I say try a pastel to it and see if you get supers. Or a cinny and look for pewters.

That's kinda what I did using the Pin...figure I might get the worst looking Lemon Blast anyone has ever seen.

I'm working with something that kind of looks like that when crossed into pastels. I'm going to breed my chocolate pin next year......maybe you have what I have? Maybe some sort of chocolate?

Another thing......they might make some WICKED pewters......I'm trying that with my stuff too......

If you suspect anything else, there is always yellowbellies, hidden gene womas, het supersripes, and het crystals......those all have unlocked plenty of stuff.......

I think it's a dirty pastel. I actually like the dirty look. I like the bright clean ones too, but the dirty ones are cool to me. The pic is of 2 I hatched out in 09. The dirty one went this year and hatched out 3 pastaves, 1 mojo, 1 normal, and one of the brightest pastels I've ever seen! Good luck with that girl I'm sure she'll throw gems too! Chris Hall
