Neonate with lazy-hanging tongue??

tcdrover Jun 23, 2011 09:32 AM

I think I remember reading a post about this not so long ago.
I couldn't find it though.

I had a litter this Saturday. One of the neonates has an unusual
hanging tongue. Most of the time it goes in and out just like
normal but sometimes, about 30% of the time it hangs out just
like on those funny looking hairless dogs. I'm not sure if it is
forked, it looks different somehow.

Will this heal?

Does anyone know anything about this?

This morning it was normal. Thanks.....tc

I know I have had one this past season born that way. Actually, I didn't catch it until a day of two after it was born...then, when I went to separate it...it had stopped...then did it again...then stopped. I did say something up here about it while asking for info on the "puffy eye" issue of an albino neonate as well....but it went back in and has stayed that way since. Not sure why it did it, only one out of 74 babies born...? If there is something else, like its tongue not being forked, thats a different story I have no experience in!! :/

Not sure if this helps...

Good luck!!!

Thanks, that is good news. I've never seen anything like that
before.

I've checked on it a few times today & the tongue always went back in like normal.

I like your company name. We're practically cousins.

Yeah, I named mine PARTY BOY because he reminded me of a broken party favor!!! LMAO!! He would still flick it even though it wasn't going back in, so that made me breathe a little easier...but when I would grab a camera or a friend to witness it, he would stop.... little punk!! lol. But, yeah, it stopped and went back in and hasn't been out since. Not sure what caused it but it was like right after he was born so I am guessing he was just tired from the journey?!?!

Yeah, lol, I saw your name when I first signed up on here and was like" Crap, someone beat me to it!!" Then I looked closer.... It has a whole theme, just wanted to concentrate on the snakes first... but graphics to come soon, I am hoping!!! Nice talking to ya!!!

Yeah, it seems much better now. After the 2nd day I never saw it
hang again, but it seems like it isn't forked. I only see one
point on there.

It's unfortunate, it is one of only two sharp albinos I got from
that litter. There were no sunglows which was disappointing.
I've got another sharp het female right about to drop any day now
so I might still get some sharp sunglows.

They were both born pretty drab looking but after a couple of
days the colors really started to show up.

Thanks, how're things with your tongue twister?

cool, glad to see you found my last post! Glad your guy seems to have stop just hanging around finally!!! Not sure about the non-forking tongue. I know Ive noticed a few of my boas, babies and adults will do that from time to time in "periods"...as in, they'll do it overtime I see them for a short period, then not, then do it again later. Im talking like months in between periods though. Then I have other boas Ive never seen do it. Weird?!?!?

Have you tried closer inspection yet of its tongue or trying to get it to flick its tinge over and over to see it it'll fork? Ive never seen or heard of a non-forked tongue...but then again, I'd never seen a siamese twin snake before... but that one's checked off my list now. YIKES!

My "party boy" never did it again. Guess he figured out he wasn't gunna get a girlfriend later if he didn't stop looking like a perv with his tongue out all day, lol.

Good luck with yours!!
