A SAD day for me...... SNIFF.

MissHisssss Sep 30, 2003 01:11 AM

When I went into the mouse room this morning I found two cages on the floor, with babies of different sizes, both alive and dead, scattered all around. There were a few adults still in the cages all confused... but most were gone.... one being my FAVORITE little pet mouse that would always climb onto my hand and crawl up my arm whenever I opened the cage door. She was small... and never got pregnant, but I kept her anyway just because she was so freindly.

I stood there in amazement trying to figure out how this happened when I remembered seeing a cat by the dog door, which enters the mouse room, several weeks before. I also recalled hearing my dog making a ruckus this morning before I got up but didn't check because it was garbage pick-up day and she always barks at them.

As if this wasn't enough.... after cleaning up the mess I walked in to my livining room to where I keep my snakes and I saw that the top of one of my 60 gallon terrariums was pushed in and my FAVORITE huge shinny black Mexican King snake was gone.

Needless to say, this wasn't a very good day for me and I'll probably never know what all happened... all I do know is that I lost both my favorite mouse, and my favorite snake, all in one day. Sniff.

Just needed to talk about it... thanks for your shoulders.

I suppose no one understands more than these forums. Our hearts are with you.

Don't give up on the snake, he could still come around. I hatched 3 Bairds Ratsnakes this summer. All three have been eating like pigs, especially the second to hatch. I forgot to put the rocks on the screen on #2's tank and next morning discovered that he was gone. I searched the room and finally put a heat pad on the floor with a bowl of water and a pinky. Next morning the pink was gone but no sign of #2 snake.

I figured that since the pink was gone he had to still be in the herp room and continued providing pinks. This weekend we were gone for 4 days and since the babies had been eating every 3rd day they were all pretty hungry. I walked into the room and started fussing with my new MHD eggs. My hubby entered the room and yelled "here he is!" He was up on top of my Bull snake cage, which is right next to a shelf with my breeder mice who have several pinks. It appears he was a hunting

So, leave a heat source on, a pan of water and maybe a mouse. You just might draw him out.

Meanwhile, I am sorry for your loss. It is very upsetting to lose any animal even if it's food.

Thank you for your kind words everyone. As far as the snake... my little dog showed me where it was. THANK GOD. I had already checked there yesterday but tonight Wiggles honed in on it and I saw a smidgen of it's tail sticking out from under the sofa. I was sooooooooooooooooooooo happy.

As far as the mouse.... it was the only one in my 18 colonies that was not going to be fed off. It was that special. But in a way I wish it could have such a quick death compared to what she is going to experience. I have a lot of poison out for the wild mice and there's no way for her to avoid it. SNIFF.

Thanks again ya all for your shoulders.
