How can you tell they are Citrus? Especially the Pewters. Why did you refer to some as Citrus and one as Citrus Whiteout.

follow1 Jun 27, 2011 10:39 AM

The sire was a citrus pewter and the mother was a normal. The whiteout looks like a super only is not. Whiteout is a A citrus.

I'm not an expert on ID'ing Citrus by any means, I have Amir look at mine. But having a citrus parent does not mean that every pastel offspring is citrus. The one you labeled as a whiteout certainly looks citrus. The others, I have no idea, I'm not saying that they aren't. The whiteout designation was added to the citrus name after time, citrus and citrus whiteouts are one and the same. I like the citrus and have quite a few citrus pastels and combos, I just wanted to point out that not every pastel from a citrus is automatically a citrus.

I just got off the phone with Amir just to confirm. Citrus is a line of pastel with some more extreme then others. The whiteouts are the top of the line extreme citrus with the hidden gene. So all my babies are citrus with the one you pointed out as the whiteout being just that, a whiteout.

I guess the story evolves from week to week. The last I heard, the hidden gene you referred to is what made them citrus or not. It isn't a straight forward thing to be sure.
I'm sure he is enjoying his project getting some attention. Here is some of my citrus stuff from last year. The top picture and also others clutches is what inspired the whiteout name. The bottom two pics are how they colored up after a couple of months.
