Why do so many of the adult ackies in the classifieds have missing front toes?
I was told that this means they are WC, and that the toes get broken off when they are tied together, as a means of restraint, at the point of capture. Is this true?

hmmmmmmmmm what have you been smoking, why would anyone tie up an ackie. Wild caught or not.
Ok, they loose toes because of dry conditions, in most cases, a screen top and sand substrate will cause that very quickly.
That would soon be followed by tail tip lose.
It appears when to dry, they shunt blood flow to the extremities. And they simply dry up and fall off.
With the toes, the first thing you notice is the toe pointing up, then you notice a swelling at the base, and its gone.
The toe lose is not so bad, but its a sign of chronic dehydration.
If I may, ackies are extremely tough, they can survive this, without toes and tail tips. But other species, may not, especiallly into types. Their kidneys fail before their toes fall off.
By the way, who the heck told that wild caught story, you should go punch them in the nose.
I have an ackie I got about a year and a half ago that was missing all toes on one foot. It just has little nubbs. It has been doing great and isnt bothered by the gimpy foot. I know that wasnt the question but just figured I would put it out there.
Varanus acanthurus are an Australian species, and as such, are banned from export.
So the spiny tailed monitors you see for sale (in other countries outside of Oz), are all captive bred...
Hmmmmmmmm so what if there banned, that was not the question. hahahahahahahahaha, it seems south african, Madagascar, phillipine, brazilian, and ozzie reptiles, commonly come into Europe(germany)(they get everything) and to a lesser extent, the States.
All those countries ban export, but poop happens.
They say do not get into an accident or they will cancel your insurance. But insurance is required in case you have an accident. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
With these animals, they are banned because they were collected, if they were not or are not collected, there would be no need to ban them. hahahahahahahaha
So legal or not, they do get collected, and some get caught, some get away with it, etc. LIke with everything else.
I want to know how tying them up causes their toes to fall off. And who the heck is tying up ackies. hahahahahahahahahaaha
Oh oh oh, maybe he means someone is poaching them and taping them up so they will not move or make noise. In that case, it could pull their toes off. hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm something is sticky in Broadway.
