Snake escapee found ONE YEAR later!!!

BlueKing Jun 28, 2011 12:36 AM

Shortly after getting this pretty little girl from Zenny last year, I closed her cage in a hurry, which left a gap in there. OOPS!!! She then escaped. We looked for her EVERYWHERE. After a few days, then weeks I eventually faced the fact that I would never see this snake again - Especially knowing that there are numerous feral cats, cars, people, and lawn mowers in my neighborhood. This was July 2010.
One year later, in June 2011, my son walks out of the back door of my house and removes a small piece of carpet near my dogs kennel (only about three feet from my house). He finds an orange Kingsnake! WOW! She was very skinny, a little scarred, but alive. My son gave her water and when I came home for my annual vacation (from Afghanistan), a few days later, I gave her a meal of four large pinkies. She has eaten two other times already and is putting her weight back on. I am amazed that she has survived all the stray cats, rodents, other snakes, people, and a fairly cold NC winter to still be alive ONE YEAR later! I guess snakes ARE tougher than we give them credit for. I'm very glad she's back! Finally some good news!!! Here's a pic of her I took just a few days ago (from Zenny's high orange x hypo high orange brooksi project):

Congratulations!! Time to go buy a lottery ticket!

That is so neat that you found her one year later, and outside even! What are the odds??

Thanks....
What's so amazing is that she was found only three feet from my house....I figured if she WAS alive, (especially after one year), she would have been more like three MILES from my house. Maybe after running into some of the feral cats around here she changed her mind, came back and thought: "Please take me back. It's dangerous out here!!!"

Thanks!
That one wasn't a cheap one either! I paid good money for her! So I was pretty excited when my wife first told me about it. And she's eating like a pig (as 99.9% of brooksi usually do)!

Love happy endings!
In another forum I read about a person who lost their king snake last year in Oregon and this year it was found in their bathroom in pretty good shape.

My escapee from last year, a wild caught king, who I hope I find someday alive and well. If not at least he is loose in his native habitat.

Wow - I bet that Kingsnake from Oregon REALLY wanted back in his cage (if he was found IN the house a year later!!!
Hopefully your (escapee), will surprise you and turn up that way....

I will admit though, that when I found her, I can tell she must have had a rough year finding food as she only grew about two inches!

Congrats, thats a coll feeling.

They can be tough as nails, my friend found an escapee Corn after a year up in Buffalo. Crafty CB snake figured out where to go to survive a Buffalo winter. Its amazing when their natural instincts take over.

BlueKing Jun 29, 2011 09:37 PM

1 year outside in Buffalo?
Wow, now that IS amazing.....Their winters are much worse than here in NC!
Tough little cornsnake!
