African Import Project Confirmed...

RegiusCo Jun 29, 2011 08:07 PM

Some of you have had the opportunity to see this animal in person occasionally over the past few years.

Imported WC in 2005

A few months later

We have also shared pictures of her on several other reptile forums through the years, with various but extremely interesting feedback. The consensus tends to lead towards her being recessive, we figured the best way to prove this was to breed her to another recessive gene...we did and used a Genetic Stripe.

This breeding gave us a nice clutch of 9 beautiful but normal looking babies...of course high in males; that fall we did manage to get one of these DH males up to breeding size and bred him back to mom. This produced another 9 egg clutch which resulted in only one visual that looked like mom...not our best odds...but one is all you need to prove the gene.

We wanted to breed for blushing and blushing is what we achieved on this first 2010 girl, her blush is much more intense than her mom's: making this snake vividly contrasting between the black and yellow. It's the yellow on these animals that makes them so intense looking a yellow which they retain into adulthood.

2010 proven with this girl, she's also poss het G-Stripe

This season, we bred mom to another project but even more interesting is that we were successful in breeding some of the hets back to each other...and the results were conclusive in confirming this new gene as a Recessive,

Full circle confirmed 2011 hatchings from het to het breeding, these guys are much brighther than last years baby.

More pictures once they have shed out,

We have been entertaining the name "Buttermilk" because of the creamy and buttery appearance of the yellow...but somehow this name seems to fall short.

Name suggestions welcomed...

FYI, we have already had the following:

What the F*** is that
What in Blue Blazes
OMG
Holy S***
Holy C***

they couldn't have hit it last year, because they said that this season was the het to het breeding. just to clarify, im asking if they hit on w/e their thing is and the g stripe combo. not just proving out their gene

I did see it last year, trust me.

The thing is that they still had to prove it being recessive.

IMO it was but there was still a probability it wasn't since if I am right, they used a ? morph poss. g.stripe to a double het to get it.

I agree with Evan's statement on this one, alot like a recessive Desert Ghost, bit different in the head and overall pattern but still alot like that.

Have you looked at the sheds on that line closely? Any pigment at all in the shed or is it clear???

Neat stuff !

That's awesome. I always love to hear about import projects that prove out. I've always wanted to prove out my own morph and name it but so far everything has been normals, but I'm not giving up yet. Anyway, if I ever get the chance to name something I think I would give it a funny name. Along those lines, when looking at your snake I was thinking...Manila Ice...since it seems to have a really light yellow. I wonder what that would do with other morphs...maybe it could be used to clean up the axanthics or soften some of the darker morphs.

Thanks for sharing,

W. Smith

Don't confuse things by naming it buttermilk. It might be thought of as a butter combo.

Perhaps?
Similar hatch

Watever Jun 30, 2011 08:24 PM

I knew it was recessive. You proved it last year IMO.

That G.Stripe Combo (What ever you call it) is just simply nice. Hope you hatch out a few more combo this season.

I think SoyaMilk or SoyaSauce would be an awesome name for either the morph or the combo.

I would like to see if it's comptable with the deser ghost, I hope not but who knows now. The superstripe, specials, potion and now the toffino WOW, what is what

Looks a lot like the Bell's Desert Ghost.

I agree with Greg completely , I thought the same thing , the clean crisp contrast , banded , spidery pattern , Jet black markings , and defined outlined , and faded head . JUst an incredible animal................can't wait to see that in a Banana or Coral Glow version . .....but it is spectacular by itself .
