Breeding an average hypo Honduran female

TheColubridKid Jul 02, 2011 12:51 PM

I have this yearling hypo girl, I love this snake and want to breed her in the future. While she is an awesome pet, I feel she is a very average looking girl.

From experience if I put her with my high quality vanishing pattern hypo male will that help their offspring?

Sorry about the image I cropped it because their was so much white wall

Here is another photo showing how "tippy" she is.

Still no a bad looking snake. Like Doug said a VP or a nice Hypo will help, especially if yo breed those babies together down the road.

Thanks for the reply, Doug is awesome, he's been helpful as all get out since I came back to Kingsnake. I was on in the late 90s.

I just visited your site, see how far you can get that stripe down the back of that buckskin tri colors offspring

I have pics of the entire clutch those two came from and there were a couple with full stripes. However the price was way out of my ball park. Hopefully these two have the right stuff in them since they are the same bloodline? We'll see, but it may be next year. The male is still a bit small and acts like he doesn't know what to do, lol.

Sure,....if you breed that to a real nice vanished, or ANY very clean hypo Honduran of any type it will certainly "clean-up" any offspring they might produce.

Good luck with it!

I think Doug and others answered your question, but I just want to state my opinion on this "hypo".

First, I LOVE it. I think it is an above average vanishing hondo...but I personally wouldn't call it a hypo.

Many would call it a "hypo" because it does in fact have a much "reduced" black pigment in coverage area. However, it has (at least by the photo) normal black pigment saturation. In other words, it's black is black...not dark gray or blotchy gray.

Randy W. produced some AWESOME vanishing pattern Hondos that remind me of this phenotype.

I would guess she's carrying one or two hypo genes, but it would be interesting to see what you could produce from pairing her with a screamer male like Doug has...

The only point I'm trying to make is that there are so many different hypo types out there...it would be nice to distinguish between them.

Maybe we need a chart!

Very well stated Rusty!.....and I certainly agree that defining EXACTLY where hypomelanism actually begins is a very tough nut to crack and define sometimes..LOL! I like that snake too to be quite honest.
