Where to find and how to breed?

nashveg Jul 03, 2011 09:28 PM

I live in Maryland. I really like snakes and want to breed black rat snakes and release them. Would anyone happen to know where I can buy a breeding pair? Or some yearlings and then raise them to be breeders?

MD used to allow you to catch wild snakes and keep so many...I do not know the laws....
alot of states do not allow catching any, some allow one...some 2...and so on...
alot of states have it illegal actually to release snakes...even if they are native...if they were in a captive state for more than a certain time period....it is to prevent diseases from our collections from spreading into wild populations...

so ...check out Maryland DNR site and laws first...then catch blacks at least so the gene pool is the same where you plan on releasing them....

just info....

for buying...check classified section for ratsnakes here online...

?....
