I've got babies!!!!

ShadyLady Jul 04, 2011 09:03 PM

My butter motley x amel motley het butter babies hatched. They started pipping at 52 days and it took a week for them to all come out. Of 21 eggs, one went bad, two I manually pipped, one of which hatched. The other will be shown in my message after this one. NOT FOR THE SQUEAMISH! So don't look at it if you will be disturbed. That baby is a cojoined twin, one head, two bodies.

Also, the pecentages were great. Half butter, half amel het butter. Most of these babies have pinstriping. I wasn't expecting that.

This poor little thing(s) used up all it's yoke but couldn't survive to hatch. I almost always open unhatched eggs to see what's up inside - found this little critter. The head, I believe is actually two babies. Only has two eyes and one mouth, but looks like it tried to have two mouths and the head is bulgy.

....Or something like that.....
Too bad for that one, or those, or them, or whatever it almost was......
At least you got a nice bunch of babies out of the rest of those eggs.
Congratulations and thanks for sharing!

That sure is one grotesque deformity! I'm glad the rest of your babies are doing well and so good looking. Congrats.

That's so cool you got the mix of patterns! Was one parent striped and the other not? I'm still trying to figure out the whole dynamics of motleys. They are so cute

Thanks, Lyn. Yeah, they are cuties. Small, too. I think maybe because they hatched early. My temps were a bit too hot early on.

The dad is a regular motley, no abberancies. The mom is a mix. Mostly what some call q-tip. I was real surprised to see all those stripes! A few have a perfect stripe all the way from head to vent area, then it breaks up into regular motley spots.

Very nice! My alternas didn't start pipping until day 72 (yesterday). Had me on pins and needles. 5 out of the egg, and 8 to go. Check out all the babies on the kingsnake forum if you haven't already.
