Phelsuma studbook

yeagermeister111 Sep 30, 2003 10:34 AM

A friend of mine and I were talking, and we were going to begin keeping a studbook of our Phelsuma. We don't have huge collections in the least, but we think it's a worth-while project. Would anyone else here be interested in participating in such a program?
Best,
Justin

A studbook? Theres lots of phelsuma books out today. Greg and Leanne Christenson just released one too, but i think your idea would work. Would the book be personal, or for publishing/educational purposes (etc.)?

What experience do you have exactly? (Other than being a master at darts

And why do you need others to particapate. For caresheets, and stuff like that?

If so, than yea, id be interested.

Good luck with your book.

A studbook is a means of keeping track of who has what bloodlines, and who has babies of what. It's a way to keeping different lines separate and locating unrelated bloodlines to pair up with your own animals. I will not be publishing an informational book, I'm no expert yet. My experience with Phelsuma goes from a decade ago when I kept and bred some (when I was getting going with dart frogs) and now when I'm working with several species). I'm no self-proclaimed expert, but finding unrelated animals in such a small hobby like this would be very plausible especially with help from something like this. If you have any Phelsuma, you can feel free to write me with what specie, subspecie, sexes, and origin as far back as possible.
Best,
Justin

Oh, i get it.

Ive kept/cared for my firends Klemmeri, and Standingi, but i personally keep Laticauda and Grandis (more on the way). Im just a small private breeder, but probably wont be breeding anytime soon (school first for me), so i cant help you there. Sorry. Im sure you'll find other top breeders around.

Good luck.

The purpose isn't as much to find breeders as it is to know who has different bloodlines of them. I personally am working with P. guimbeaui, P. klemmeri (7 bloodlines), P. cepediana (1 bloodline now, two in the spring), P. ornata (2 bloodlines), and P. laticauda laticauda.

Studbook sounds like a great idea. I've had questions about bloodlines myself. Could be asking for more than you bargined for though. But since you're offering, I'm keeping Grandis 5.5.8, Standingi 1.2.4 and Gumbeaui 1.1(I think). What might be the code to keep the lines in order? I think a little research into the world of aig. husbandry might be illuminating. Maybe talking to the folks at Leaping Lizards for insight.
