New Corns

herps Jul 06, 2011 08:29 PM

I am usually a ball python guy but recently have decided to get into corn snakes and just picked up both of these guys today. the first one was sold to me as a Abbott Butter Motley and the second as a Hypo Lavender Striped. I have had some things that I bought from this guy that were mislabeled and wanted to know what you guys think. also I wanted to know the average price I should have paid for them(wanna make sure i did not get ripped off).
Thanks in advance

Well, this is just my opinion, but an Abbott Okeetee is no longer an Abbott once you breed it to something else. I realize he wants to get the point across that the Okeetee he use was an Abbott Okeetee, but since the Abbotts are a line bred bloodline, I don't think it's correct to keep the name. Like I said just my opinion. As far as price goes, it's all about what your willing to pay for an animal really. I have seen identical type snakes at sold at drasticly different prices. Sometimes people are willing to pay more for a snake from a well known breeder so they can say this snake is from so and so. The thing to do is to research first before you buy. You can go on the classifieds and get a good ideah what most snakes are selling for. So if you see the same snake at a much cheaper price, you really can't get mad at the guy who sold it to you. Let the buyer beware! Both of those look very good by the way. I especially like that striped one! Good luck with them.

oh, hypo lavender stripe...hmmm...75 bucks? butter motley, 40 to 45... it's what I'd charge at a show... But like someone else said, it's a variable thing. At a show your competing with many sellers in a very short window. It's all about how willing the breeder is about holding onto animals or just trying to move them out the door. Generally those able to ship easily are willing to hang onto them and charge more. Pet stores always charge more but then don't only have hours to try to sell a product like a small breeder at a reptile show does.

So don't fret about what you paid for them. You paid the price that you were willing to pay at the moment. Frankly, where I live, no one would pay me a dime for my snakes... I don't live in a pet snake area of the country...I only know of ONE other person in town that has even a single snake...

Pretty babies by the way, very nice.
