Dinker breeding question......

basssnatcher34 Jul 07, 2011 10:52 PM

I have a nice looking dinker male that I am wanting to breed this coming up season. I know that I need to breed him to a normal female and take his offspring and breed back to him to find out IF there are any genetics to prove out. My question is about actually breeding the dinker. Should I be selective with my the female or it really does not matter?

That depends. I wouldn't want to breed him to a female with a genetic trait, like reduced pattern or banded...if you are trying to prove him specifically.

Example:
I have a male and female that I think might be granites. I am not going to breed them together because if I miss on the super...I won't know which parent is or isn't genetic.

I'd breed him to the normalest normal you can find...and go from there.

I have two females that I am thinking about breeding him too. One is dark and the other is light. They are both normals but which one to use?

Both if you want to up your chances of proving him and you really think he could be genetic. If you have doubts, I'd go with one and breed something else to the other.
