Big Costa Rican

maizeysdad Jul 09, 2011 01:41 PM

This is Caliente, my 2006 Costa Rican. She liked being outside. Decided to grab my hand when I had the audacity to try to keep her from wandering off. She's right in the neighborhood of 8 ft., very solid and crazy strong.

The kid next to her is 14 years old and about 5' 9".

Years ago I remember reading about Costa Rica Boas. The autghors were from Costa and a herp guy who spent alot of time there.

I wish i still had the article , anyway, they specifically spoke about generally two types of Costa Rica boas.

If memory serves me Costa Rica Boas from the interior usually reached far larger sizes and tended to have much brighter colors and very bright orange tai;ls in many cases.

I believe they spoke of the Coastal region Costa Rica boas tend to
be smaller and a slightly different range of colors.

It's been too long I just can't remember the specific facts and
regions they spoke, it wasn't quite as general as I
spelled it out to be.

I know of all the C.A. Countries some of the Boas that come out
of Costa Rica can more easily be misidentified as Colombian
type Boas because of their size build pattern and color.

She's a big beautiful Boa 1

When I acquired this animal, Gus Rentfro told me that Costa Ricans were some of the biggest and most aggressive of the BCIs. She used to be a real handful, but she's OK now.

Vin Russo shows the differences in his book, and this Boa looks just like the big think critter from up in the cloud forest area.
