The ratsnake forum is dead, this one isn't so...
he's about 28", maybe a bit more. I was surprised at how thinly built they are. For all the world, his build makes me think of masticophis, although he's not that active. Currently he's in a tub; he's pretty slender and I'm afraid he could get out of the gap between the glass panes in my 4x2 AP. I'll move him when he's a bit bigger.

I have a female too but A: she's in shed and B: she's not as pretty anyway. Not bad, just not as pretty. She's also a bit smaller, by about 5-10".

They're very active when handled, and squirmy. I wouldn't say they're aggressive or even defensive but they're very alert and frankly a bit of a pain to manage because they're so active. Interesting snakes. I'm keeping them on smaller prey; I offered the male an adult mouse and he couldn't get it down, so he's on hoppers for now. He is very adept and moving the substrate around in his tub. The times I take him out he seems to be good at climbing as well, although I'd heard they were more terrestrial.

For sure!,....you can plainly see that one weighs many pounds, and still a tiny youngster at that compared to what it will become..LOL!

I'm actually kind of wondering what her max size will be. She's on 6-8 lb rabbits right now and she's an early 09 (like Feb or March?) so she's 2.5 years old or so. She did go off feed during the winter for a bit but since April has been an eating, shedding and pooping machine-4 sheds since april  It's like she's a hatchling again. She's put on probably a good foot or two in length and I don't know how much weight. The only problem is she seems hungry ALL THE DAMN TIME.

I know other large snakes that I've worked seemed to take a while to hit full size--my Argentine boa wasn't full grown till probably 6 years old despite good feeding. I've got an older retic (early 08) that isn't *too* much bigger than, but it's a male too and they do seem to stay smaller. I'll see I guess.

True!,....males and certain races of boids are very known to grow at a slower rate than others. The Argentine and several B.c.c. from the Amazon Basin attain greater length than say B.c.imperator, but the Colombian imperator are DEFINITELY among the FASTEST growing.

A smaller dwarf male retic would be about all I would ever care to keep as far as reticulatus, but I have had a good number of different types of boids over the years. I just got rid of a HUGE adult pair of Colombian imperator to Jerge's brother in-law.

Jorge, if ya read this, how are those two monsters doing??

Hmmm...that did look like a pretty big fat rat snake...
I know of a forum that is discussing rat snakes. If your rats are from the South West this might be a fun thing to check out.

Very cool photo... makes me think of Bela Lugosi in his old Dracula movies... cape covering the lower half of his face, bright piercing red eyes staring at you fiendishly...
