Hello All,
Elvis is back in the building. My year old Arg. B&W escaped from his outdoor enclosure (see below) several days ago. A few minutes ago someone told me that he was seen on a near by pile of stones. Upon inspection there was a very "teguy" looking burrow undernearth the pile. (It was a pile of curb stones on some timbers.)
After moving five or six stones I had a clear view of the burrow. I stuck my hand in but could not reach the end. A bit of digging and I could just reach some bedding material (ie, grass, leaves, etc.) I dug a bit more and just touched him. Elvis, being 5.5 pounds now and a formidable beast, charged halfway out with mouth agape! I did the old "go for my left hand as I grab you head with the right hand" trick.
LOST TEGU ADVICE FROM BERT LANGERWERF
(Second-hand through Nicole)
1. Look for a burrow or burrow-like place (under stuff, pipes, holes, etc.)
2. Tegus search for places that have some moisture. Burrows are naturaly humid. Look in damp places in houses and basements.
3. The lizards is probably with 100 feet of the point of escape. Elvis was about 200 feet, but that is still really close by considering a tegus average speec X by the time he's
been out.
4. As you most likely have observed tegus like to bask between 10:00AM and 2:00PM. Elvis was spotted basking at 1:00PM.
5. Your tame tegu will be in wild mode...flight or fight.
All of this was true for me today! Keep it in mind if your tegu gets out!
Brian
PS: Elvis was hatched in 2002 not 2003.
