Genetics chart?

lhenry777 Jul 10, 2011 10:58 PM

Is there a such thing as a genetics chart floating around? Specifically for hognose snakes. I had a basic cross explained to me but I'm trying to dig a little deeper. Thanks in advance

It's called a punnett square and it applies to all animals and genetics. There is nothing I know of for Hognose in general.

GREAT JON!!! Thanks so much! I'll go there and check it out in the morning...well, later this morning. I have another quick ? that my son asked. He has a little Biology under his belt. He mentioned I'd need to know dominant and recessive. Do you know what say a red albino from an extreme red albino line would be? Like is that 3 genes? Albino, red, and extreme red?
Thanks TONS!!!!

The extreme red albinos are simply a standard t negative albino that was outcrossed to nice red colored wild type animals making the pale, muted colors of the original albino line more colorful and vibrant. The red trait can be looked at as a type of line trait that gets better and better with each generation of selective breeding. The punnett square won't help much with that type of trait, as it's not set in stone like a recessive or dominant trait would be. The extreme reds are just a single recessive mutation that were selectively bred for better color.

Hope that helped,
Jon
