HELP! Boa gave birth today!

foxylandau Jul 12, 2011 04:43 PM

My Boa had babies today, 5 alive and some slugs.
I was wondering what I do with the babies? They are still in the sack do I take them out or???
First time with live babies, not used to this.
Please help ASAP. And I did not know she was gravid so I'am completely not ready! I recently got her from a petshop, she must have been gravid when bought. Let me know thanks!

Keep them damp and let them work it out. I just use a spray bottle to spritz them every once in a while.

Do they have any external yolk? If not they are full term and will likely be easier. If there is external yolk we can walk you through the proper care.

If you have another enclosure for mom that would be good.

Of course you will need to get some baby housing soon.

Of course pics are worth a thousand words.......

Unfortunately that looks like a lot of yolk. Keep em warm and moist, at gravid female temps of 87 degrees.

I would not get my hopes to high though.

after a day or so if there is still a lot of yolk you might have to remove it. I will not be online much in the next couple of days so here is a link to some instructions on removing surplus yolk.....

I would get the mom out usually just have a large rubbermaid off to the side put her in with some warm water to rinse her off.

Then pull the babies from the cage put them in a smaller rubbermaid to clean them off I usually cut the cords with about and inch or two spare.

Make sure to keep misting them and change out papertowels...leave them together until they shed then offer them food.

Hopefully they are all doing well!
