Is my beardie in danager when he....

kdollva Sep 30, 2003 01:39 PM

About a week ago (at night with the uv light off), I heard a lot of noise coming from the tank. Some how Noodles (my dragon) climbed to the top of the cage and was climbing on the cover. And he was right under the heat lamp!!! I took him off right away and lowered everything in his cage so he couldnt pull this stunt again. It scared me to death....any suggestions...like what if I wasn't awake to hear him....and has this happened to anyone else? Thanks!

PS. I feel like such a bad mommy because my baby was in danager:"

...you don't see any signs of burns or injury, he's alright. Actually, unless you keep your house below 65-70F, you wouldn't really need a heat light @ night.

Sometimes I think these guys believe they're flying monkeys! LOL!

one of my beardies used to climb out all the time. i guess they could potentially burn themselves...you just have to figure out how to either prevent the escapes to begin with or hang the bulb so they cant reach it. i was lucky enough to watch Kaipo climbing out a few times...he just came out to say 'hi', he never went anywhere :0 so i was able to figure out how he was doing it and how to stop it

You're not a bad mommy at all!

That's odd that Noodles was climbing in the middle of the night. Is he usually restless like that? Just curious. Also, is the heat lamp colored or one of the CHE kind? If the heat lamp is emitting some kind of red light at night then this could be bothing Noodles. I used to use the red kind but I stopped after my beardies appeared restless at night. I changed to the dark purple ones that look like black lights and they sleep so much better now.

usually he is soo calm at night, a couple of times i picked him up because he goes into such a deep sleep, it appears the he is dead...but yes we have a purple bulb.. this is the first time he did that, but when he did it we were up playing a game, kinda in the same area where the tank is. maybe he just wanted out? maybe he likes to play suicide bomber and drop down and ambush the crikets lolol

LOL - suicide bomber! HA!

You crack me up! One of my beardies does that too when we have company over and are making some noise or watching a movie past his bed time. He will rub his nose on the glass after his lights have turned off. It's almost as if he wants to be part of the party too!

or he's just saying 'shut up so i can get some shut eye!'

im horrible...i like picking them up and putting them on my chest when theyre sleeping. theyre so much more docile and seem content to be held then

Yeah that has happened to me in the past. Not only is the light dangerous, but the screen can be too. I once had an anole that lost it's toe because of the screen. Got stuck and pulled it off when he tried to jump.
