My holdback cal king..

ShadyLady Jul 13, 2011 12:38 PM

This is Spotty. He was a year old July 2nd. I held him back because of his unique pattern. The bands don't meet across his back, until near his tail where the normal banding starts. He looks like an appaloosa zebra cross in horse lingo, LOL! He is actually yellow and brown, but the colors won't show up on my camera. He also has that cool caped crusader head pattern. AND, he's a nice guy, easy to get along with.

Nice looking king!! Normally when I see one like this its black and white. Did u breed a b&w to a b&y to get this?

Dad is brown and yellow. Mom is supposedly a 50/50 banded black and white, but as she matures she looks more deep chocolate and white. Kerby tells me the brown and yellow is dominant. It seemed to be in this clutch.

Yeah, they call them black and white and they pretty much are when they are babies but the black lightens up to some shade of dark brown when they get older.

Nice King. It has solid growth for a yearling, what was its feeding schedule?

ShadyLady Jul 13, 2011 09:03 PM

Thanks! I feed the babies every 5 days until it just gets to be too much, LOL. Then they all eat weekly. This guy was not brumated. I didn't brumate most babies, only those that stopped eating for the winter. So he's been eating weekly right along.

Right now he's getting one to two ft small adult mice weekly. I think two is probably too much because he didn't eat last Saturday which is the reason I had him out for fresh air - had to clean his stinky cage - WHEW! Two decomposing mice!
