Hypo/albinos

StevePerry Jul 13, 2011 02:32 PM

So I have been trying to keep up with the recent topics about the mixing of genetic morphs in hognose and I personally can agree on both sides.

As many of you already know, I was surprised with a trio of het albinos that started popping out hypos. I did not create the dble hets, nor would I have thought to do so but ended up with them and I cannot say that I am disappointed (yet). In my opinion, you can easily see the difference in the dbl homozygous albino and it does offer some nice features. Is it worth the possible confusion? Honestly, my opinion is not made up. I have to separate my own bias (because I have them) before I can fully make up my mind on the subject. I do know that some breeders/keepers will like them and others will not.

I have sold some of the albino poss. hets and advertised as such, but I guess in some breeders opinions I am pure evil.

At this point I am not 100% sure of what line the hypo is coming from either. Some lines have been ruled out and to the best of my knowledge some lines have not been bred together to see if they are compatible or not.

So here is the big question for you die hard hog breeders; If you were in the same position as I am and you have the double hets, albino het hypo, hypos het albino and the double homo animal, what do you do?

Do you try to out cross the two lines and separate them using the visual morph poss. hets?

Do you keep the project going making sure to accurately disclose the genetics?

Do you throw them all in the freezer and start over?
I eagerly await your opinions.

In my opinion, anyone who thinks you are pure evil is talking out of pure jealousy or pure ignorance... I like the way they hypo gene cleans up the background color in those albinos... Very nice...

I am sure down the road I will be trying to cross the albinos in with the toffees... Now that I have a better idea of how they might look, I will most likely try to create the double visual...

Very nice Steve... It will be nice to see those in a few months...

Pure evil , why would anyone think that ???
I think they look great and are 100% distinguishable from regular hypos and albinos. Keep the project going !!!

The double is cool. I'm working with this project also. I say keep going.

The super conda double could be cool with that background cooler.

Hi Steve,
Look nice to me. My post below (My First Clutch) was sired by a male I got from you. Used an unrelated female which proved out but will try to prove out the two females from you next year.

Steve, they are all beautiful. Jealousy is a strange emotion. Keep up the good work. I'd love to be in your shoes.

I´m not sure if I like them or not, but they look interesting.
Congratulations

If I were in your shoes, I would try to figure out as much as possible and use this as a nice base for the collection. Who from us can say that he did start his addiction with an double homo morph?
